lost office 2003

I recently acquired a laptop from a friend. After repeated requests to
remove his 'stuff' from the computer, I attempted to do a system restore.
For whatever reason I was unable to do so & accidently did a PC restart
subsequently deleting office 2003 from the computer. Due to several moves in
a short period of time, he can not locate any of the disks or books that
originally came with the computer. There is a label on the bottom with a
product key code however that number does not seem to work when I try to load
the trial version which is still on the computer. Is there any way to obtain
and reinstall the full version of office 2003 or get the product key code? I
just recently started a job search and am desperate to be able to get into
word to be able to work on my resume and cover letters.

Use Wordpad, which comes free with Windows. Wordpad is perfectly
adequate for basic stuff like resumes and letters.

You will need the Office 2003 CD and 25-digit product key to reinstall
Office 2003. The product key on the bottom of your laptop is for
Windows, not for Office.

Open Office is almost fully compatible with Office 97-2003 documents and is
free.

I was afraid you were going to say that I needed the disks and I was hoping
that the key code on the bottom was good enough. I have been using word pad
to make changes, etc but I really needed the other stuff included ie outlook
and excel. Thank you for your help and advice anyway.

Thanks for the tip. A local computer repair guy just told me about it and
that it works interchangeably with word and that it looks like, smells like,
taste like, it. I just downloaded it the other day and while I am still
'exploring', I was hoping that I would be able to get the real thing. Once I
get my files off my old desktop, I will try it out.

I was hoping for a different answer, but afraid I was going to get the one
you gave me. I have been using word pad for 'little things' (waiting to
retrieve files from desktop b/f discarding) but I really needed some of the
other things in office like outlook and excel. I was just told about open
office and downloaded that for now....still exploring it though.

If I dont have disks and key code does that mean that I cant even use the
trial version?
