Lost Office Discs and Serial Number

Hey Fellow Office Users:

My iBook hard drive crashed while on a trip to Europe and I lost all my
data. The local Apple Store in Madrid recovered my Documents folder but
not any of the Applications. They put in a new hard drive and now that
I got home, the first thing I planned to do was install Office.

The bad part is that I can't locate my Office installer CDs anywhere.
Worse yet I have not logged in my serial number anywhere.

Is there anything I can do? I always register my software so maybe
there is a record of my purchase somewhere.

Hi Juha,

I'm afraid there's not much you can do. Office:mac does not require you to
register your product, and the registration itself, if you decide to do it,
is as a matter of fact only a way of signing up for the Mactopia newsletter.
So as far as the registration is concerned, no, Microsoft does not have a
record of your purchase.

However, if you still have some kind of proof of purchase, you could contact
Microsoft for a replacement. Have a look at the following website: How to

It is also possible that your household insurance may stump up for the cost
of the replacement software. This would be more likely if the computer had
been stolen or accidentally damaged, but they may allow a claim for a dead
disk causing loss.
