lost outlook by installing office 2007 trial

davidei

I have been running the Office 2007 Beta and received mail suggesting I
install the trial version instead. The first attempt to install the trial
software complained that I needed to uninstall the previous version of
Office. I used Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Office 2007 Beta, then ran
the Office 2007 Trial install again. When it was done, I could see Word,
Excel, Powerpoint, Access and Publisher in my menus - but no Outlook! I
don't see an outlook exe in the Office12 directory (program files\microsoft
office\office 12). The only previous verson of Outlook.exe I can find is in
Office 10 and it can't run ("OLE registration problem. Please run setup
again.")

a) where is Outlook 2007?
b) why would a progression from installed Office Pro to Beta to Trial leave
me with no outlook?
c) what do I do now?

Uninstall all previous versions of Office then run a custom installation of Office 2007 and select Outlook to install.

Hi Davidei,

Which edition of MS Office 2007's trial software did you download from http://trymicrosoftoffice.com ? The MS Office Home & Student
Edition is the only edition that does not include MS Office Outlook 2007.

Otherwise, as Milly points out, only one Outlook version can be installed to for use. If there is prior Office versions listed in
Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel choose the prior edition and uninstall the Outlook feature and see if you can do a
'Repair/Reinstall' of the prior version (you'll need the CDs for that version). If it won't complete, then the prior version
install may be broken and that can cause issues with the Office 2007 installation upgrade working correctly.
