I have lost my product codes in a flood as all the items in the closet where
I kepted them got a deadly black mold and had to be destroyed by a hasmat
team. I have my original disks by no codes to reinstall. My computer
crashed and had to have the disk formated and now I am not able to install
two of my Microsoft programs. I can not find any place on the web to search
and see if I registered them and no help for my answer. Microsoft will not
let me e-mail them unless I pay a fee. ???any help out there...This mus t
happen to other people who legally own their programs. What can we do to
get our codes?

You have to provide MS with proof of purchase, if retail software.
The code is usually afixed to the cd case.
If OEM software supplied with a PC, contact PC manufacturer
But I doubt you will be able to prove purchase.
You can of course make a claim on household insurance for the cost of new
programs

Actually I don't think household insurance will pay for flood damaged
property. Unless the owner has flood insurance they are SOL.

Over here its Contents Insurance, the Buildings Insurance pays for the
building damage.
Or as put to me; If you turned your house upside down, what falls out is
Contents, the rest is Buildings insurance

Unfortunately in the US, unless you have a rider on your homeowners or
renters insurance, flood damage to building or contents is not usually
covered in a standard insurance policy and is specifically excluded for
recovery. You have to pay for a separate policy. The policies do usually
cover water damage from broken pipes, etc. but when I read "flood" I expect
naturally occurring water from outside the house.

Many in the US, even in flood prone areas, don't pay for the additional
protection. I have it and I live in a "100 year flood zone." Last
hurricane that came through I had flood water across the street from me and
wasn't affected but about 20% of the houses in my town had water in them.
Only about 50% of those had insurance.

We've also had many floods over the last couple of years, and as such
'flood' is now excluded on some policies, depending where you live.
It used to be the case that flood insurance was included on all except a few
policies, and there was a universal charged throughout the country, now
resulting from recent problems that is no longer the case, though generally
if you stay with your current insurer cover is continued.
