Lost "Recent File Lists"

J

John O'Boyle

On a recent reinstall of Office 2003, I've apparently failed to check
some installation option. I no longer have a "recent file list" in
either Word or Excel, nor do I have the option to restore it via
"tools", "options", "general". The appropriate check box is grayed out.

I would appreciate any help anyone might offer in guiding me toward
restoring this function.

Thank you

The most common reason for this that I have seen is the installation of
TweakUI and marking one of the settings on its options. Did you install
this powertoy?

Yes, but I'll now go take a look at the options I used. Any clues?

Thanks.

Try clicking on the Explorer option and ensure you don't have Clear document
history on exit selected.

In the unlikely event that Milly's last response does not help...

It may depend on what version of TweakUI you have and what version of
Windows you have.
If you have a version for Win98/Me then try the IE tab and ensure "Add
new documents to documents on the Start Menu" is checked.
If you have an XP version, then try Tweakui-Explorer and check "Allow
recent documents on the Start Menu"
