Lost sound in Word and Entourage

All of a sudden I lost feedback sound in Word and Entourage.

I checked sound preferences - they WERE set to be ON. But I turned
them off and on again anyway. I restarted the computer. I fixed disk
permissions. I ran Disk Warrior. Still no "ping" when I save.

Sound works fine in other applications.

Any ideas?

I found an answer to my own question about losing sound in Microsoft
programs. Since my last posting on this issue, I noticed that I could
hear sounds through USB headphones, but not through the internal or
external speakers.

I called Apple Care. Apparently my Audio Midi Setup (in Applications)
had been changed from the factory default. I changed Audio Output to
44100.0 Hz in the "format" box and restarted the computer.

Everything works fine now!
