Lost Start up menu icon

For a reason I cant fathom, using Excel 2003 as part of Office Professional,
my start up icon has disappeared from the Start Up Menu, and the icon in
programmes, whilst there doest open up Excel when I click on it! It will open
up if I open a file from my Documents and then seems to work normally. This
happen whichever user logs on.Anybody got ideas?
