lost the ability to attach attachments

Glenn Kelly

Hello.
My friend has a problem on their Mac OSX 10.4.5 with Entourage 2004:
He says:
I have suddenly lost the ability to attach attachments. When I click the
paper clip it freezes every time and nothing happens. I have to press escape
to get back to the e-mail. attachments are suddenly impossible.

Any ideas?

- I know its not a lot to go on, but I thought I would ask here if anyone
has a fix for it.
Thanks
Glenn

Some more info to help the process:
What happens is that when you click the paper clip the
recipient's name goes from black to grey and the screen freezes every time.

The only way I can add an attachment is to drag and drop which does work.
The paperclip is completely ineffective.

Since the paperclip calls the OS to bring up an OS dialog to find the file,
sounds like something may have gone wonky with Entourage's ability to call
an Open File dialog.

So try repairing permissions and doing other basic disk maintenance.

Do you have iDisk Synching turned on in System Preferences/.Mac/iDisk in
Tiger? Turn it OFF. It's an Apple bug. (But, of you have any Entourage
Projects on your iDisk, turning iDisk synching off will create bigger
problems in Entourage, where you'll see the spinning cursor every 2 minutes
when Entourage tries to connect to the iDisk. In this case, you're better
off leaving it on. But best off if you can get a server other than an iDisk
for Projects - then turn iDisk synching off.)

Thanks Paul - however he does not have this set on the Powerbook.

Anything else I could try other than reinstalling?
