Lost TOC hyperlinks from Word 2000 to Word 2002?

I recently e-mailed a document with a TOC, created in Word 2000, to someone who uses Word 2002. He has been unable to find the hyperlinks in the TOC. How can I fix the document so the TOC hyperlinks will not disappear for Word 2002 users? Is there a way for him to get the hyperlinks back
Thanks!

They're still there but not necessarily clickable due to a change in
functionality between Word 2000 and 2002. When he hovers the mouse over a
hyperlink, he should see "Ctrl+click to follow link." This is what is
required unless he disables the option (introduced to make it easier to edit
hyperlinks) on the Edit tab of Tools | Options.

Thanks Suzanne! This has had me mystified

He has not told me that he sees "Ctrl+click to follow link" message. Is it a pop-up, or does it show up in the lower left corner of the window

But, even if he doesn't see the "Ctrl+click to follow link" message, if he holds the ctrl button down when he clicks where the link should be, the link will work?

The prompt should appear as a ScreenTip (pop-up) when he mouses over any
link. In the case of a TOC, if the \h switch has been removed from the TOC
field, then only the page numbers will be linked (as in previous versions),
not the entire TOC entry, but if you left the whole entry linked, then he
should see it when he mouses over any portion of the TOC.
