Lost Word Doc is now .INK

I filled out and saved a 26 page Word document. Now, it's nowhere to be
found within my Word program. I searched my external hard drive and found it
there. But, when I tried to open it, I got this error message: "The drive
or network connection that the shortcut "MyCredentialsApplication.INK" refers
to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the
network resource is available, and then try again." My question: How can I
open this .INK document? I have no idea how it came to be a .INK document in
the first place. My external hard drive is connected to my computer via a
USB port, so I'm not sure why I got this message. Any help is appreciated!

Have you looked for it on the external hard drive? If you plug the hard
drive into a different USB port, it may be assigned a different drive
letter.

Yes, I actually found it on my external hard drive, but instead of it being a
..doc, it's now a .INK file. That is my delemma, how to convert it back to a
Word doc.
