Is there a way to recover lost passwords for word docs

You'll probably have to use a commercial service. There are a few free
WinWord password crackers, but they only work with very short passwords.

You can Google for commercial crackers. One that I've tested is

which will decrypt and display part of the doc for free - you pay only
if you choose to download.
