lost word document

Alison

Please someone help me. I opened a word file from my email package
(Incredimail), saved it as a new document and worked on it all day,
continuously saving it as I went along. I have opened word today and looked
at the recent 4 files opened and when I click on the file, Word says it can't
open it.

I have searched for the file and for temporary files and backups (which
don't exist) in the recycle bin, and restored to the day after the day I
edited the document, and nothing.

If the recent file list still shows this file, can I access it another way
through this link (which appears to be the only trace of the file)!?!? This
is my dissertation - typical!

Hi Alison,

Is Word saying it can't find it or can't open it?

In File=>Open=>Recent documents right click on that file's shortcut (there may be more than one for that file) and in
Properties=>General see what location it says the file should be in.

What was the location you chose when you used File=>Save As? If Word used the location of the document when it was attached to the
email then it would have been either to the Incredimail temporary cache or the Internet Explorer (or other browser) temporary files.
(Save from email to documents folder then open is safer to protect from this type of
loss :( ). If you're using Internet Explorer you might want to use
Tools=>Internet Options=>General=>Browser History=>Settings=>
View Files to see if it's still there.
