Lost word document

I opened a word document from an email, worked on it then clicked save (not
save as) now I can't find it anywhere. When I re-open the file in the email
it is the original document without any of the changes. Would it have been
temporarily saved on my computer somewhere?

That's because working with it as an attachment will not record any changes.
It's not meant to work that way. You must save it to your hard drive, first,
before opening and working on it, and saving.
