Lotus Approach to Access - "find" function

R

Roy

I have a simple data base of records, and was able to import them into access
from Approach.

Approach has a "find" button that when pressed, clears all fields in the
database, allowing you to put a value into any of the fields which would
return any / all records that have that value in the database.

I can't find a way to do this in Access without programming, which I have no
idea how to do.

Find and replace does not do it at all....

If you build a form that is based on the table, you then can do something
like what you seek via the Find menu. However, ACCESS does not have the same
"Find" functionality that you describe, as you can only "filter" one field
at a time. To achieve that functionality, you'd need to build a form that
has controls on it into which you type values (or combo boxes that you
select values in) and then run a query that uses those values to do the
"find" operation.

ACCESS may lack this built-in feature, but I think you'll find that it more
than makes up for it with the other, very advanced capabilities that it has.

You can generally right-click in any field and enter something like *red* to
display all the records with "red" in the field value. Doing the same in
additional fields will continue to apply more restrictive filters. You can
easily remove the filter or other options.

If you build a form to edit the data...then if you go:

Records->filter->Filter By Form

All of the fields will be cleared..and you can then enter values. This
feature takes no code at all....

You can do this in a table also - simply click the button' Filter By Form'
(note the OR tabs at the bottom of the screen)

or click on the item you wish to search for and then click the 'Filter By
Selection' Button.
