We recently, and finally, isntall the x64 bit OS. And are very excited on
the capabilities that it will allow us to do. After installing we found a
few problems that I came to find out are general problems with x64. I have
scoured the internet and extended64.com/amd64.com/microsoft tech articles/ to
no resolution. I hopeing the MVP's can direct me to a resolution. i dont
want to have to call and use up one of my 5 non-criticial system problems
through microsoft partners.

My first problems is of course NOT ONE company supports wireless adapters.
I have tried every combination recomended by other user for certain wireless
adapters using certain drivers; to nbo avail. So far we have tried three
different adapters per recomendations of other users. Belkin/ Netgear
(yuck!) / linksys (dbl yuck) Do you ahve any recomendations for anyone
wireless adapter internal or USB that will work in the x64 enviroment?

Second, we are using the Asus p5wd2 Premium MOBO, and I have downloaded the
x64 bit drivers for there onboard sound card. But i am still getting a
warning for the digitial sound bus, and no sound is coming out. Any ideas on
this??? I tried calling asus tech support but ironically they were having
phone problems in tech support (lol)

Finally, and really the most important because the other two we can get
around to but this is what is really needed out of this computer. We
installed the x64 general hp drivers for printers. When we test print we are
getting garble. I am about to go seriously take a look at that problem and
have not contacted HP yet, but since i was already here i was wondering what
you guys think about this. Am i missing something?

At the very least i need the printers to work, if thats ok i will switch the
network adapters to lan and yell at ASUS for there crappy drivers.. THANKS
GUYS you have always been a help in the past in expert chat zone.

I think you landed in the wrong newsgroup - this one if for Office for Mac.

You're doing better than I am with the HP x64 driver. It won't even install
in W2K3 x64 :)

The generic advice I will give you is this:

"64-bit operating systems are the province of serious system administrators,
currently. You will find support for large commercial software applications
such as databases and mail servers.

However, there are few drivers for consumer-level hardware items. The more
"consumer"-oriented the hardware, the less likely there's a driver for x64
yet. You may be better off running a beta of Vista x64."

Right at the moment, if it doesn't work: "sorry, nothing you can do!""

To Whom it may concern.

I am not looking in an Office specific newsgroup.

My search results gave this strand. I am responding to this issue.

I have a near new HP Pavilion dv8310ca Entertainment Notebook bought in CA
when I was recently there. It came with XP Home, etc.

I have pushed it through to Vista Ultimate (single booting only) and have
sound issues - like, deaf as me.

But, the Wireless adapter; built in; works fine with my Linksys Accesspoint
router/switch/broad-band/wireless 802.11g. Zero fiddling required.

That is straight out of the box (download really) Vista. Haven't found
audio drivers yet - "Altec lansing" brand badgework on Notebok fascia.

What he meant was he searched ALL of the newsgroups and found this thread,
which just happens to be in a Mac specific newsgroup. The Microsoft
Communities website he used to post from is severely challenged with trying
to get stuff into the right groups. We've had to learn to cope, because
they're not going to fix it.

And he's quite right: Sound drivers will be a problem in 64-bit Vista
currently. If he's using 32-bit Vista, the Creative Drives work: but if he
doesn't have SoundBlaster Audio, he's just have to wait. In silence... :)

Generically, 64-bit Vista is not a useable proposition as a desktop
operating system. I would recommend "Don't try it" unless you have a
particularly high tolerance for pain.

I received the same advice. I decided to try it to see how far I would get.
I ended up with no optical drives at all. I managed to get everything else
to work, but there's nothing I can do about my optical drives: neither are
supported.

Cheers
