Low res. photos

I have many photos on my site. I would like to load a low res photo which
would load quickly and then it would pull a higher res photo. So, I add a
high res.(72pix color photo) to the page. I right click on the photo, click
on picture properties, click on the general tab, go to alternative
representation and add the address of a low res.\small file size photo that
I created and placed in the same folder that the high res. picture is. I
clicked OK and saved the page. Now, the low gray scale photo should load
quickly and the hight res. photo should follow. It won't work. What did I do
wrong? I can't seem to find anything about this.

The photo I'm working with is the photo above "VISIT".

As to why the Alternate stuff is not working, I have no
idea but consider the following.

I suggest that you could break down this LOOOONG web page
into several pages (for instance based on your buttons).
If you were reading a book, would you want the whole book
contained in one chapter? You have a lot of pictures to
load. Why not load them on demand?

I also suggest that you reduce the resolution of your
pictures using a graphics program so that the pictures
load at an acceptable speed. You are not representing
artwork here, you are communicating about your facility.

I would also suugest you check the spelling on your
buttons.

I hope this helps point you in the right direction.

I agree with everything you said about the long page. Unfortunately, the
people that I'm doing the web for do not want a number of short pages. I'm
working on them and I hope to change their minds. I might sneak it in and
they won't even know it.

Ith spelling got by me.

What is a good acceptable resolution? I have reduced the resolution of each
picture to 72. Won't reducion the resolution further make the picture look
tiled?

Your suggestions are helpful.

It's not just the dpi but the amount of image compression of .jpg that sets the final file size

The object is to have a small file size. Compressing the file too much will
make it unattractive.
