In Access, turn off the AllowAutocorrect property of the text box(es) in
question.

On my PC, this also causes the asian surname "Teh" to be changed to "The"!
Grrrrrrrrr....

Check in Tools|AutoCorrect Options. There is an option, "Capitalize First
Letter of Sentences", which should be un-checked.

Turn off autocorrect -- in Access this is a property of the text box: check
the properties window in Form design mode. There is probably an equivalent
setting in Excel, but I can't recall where without looking it up: probably
Tools > Options > Edit or something.

When you say you are typing it "in Access", can you give some more info?

What version of Access?
Is it in a text box?
Diretcly into a table?
What properties do the fields have?
What masking?
Any code behind the data entry?
