Hi all:

I've been lurking here for awhile, and most of the questions are all g(r)eek
to me. In other words, I've just started to work on building a website for
myself. I'm not very far into it, though, because it seems there aren't many
learning avenues open to the newbie.

I have discovered a site, http://starttoweb.com/classes/introfp.php, which
offers web building courses to the public. And, thankfully, the price is
reasonable. I've seen other courses on the web cost much more than the
$59.95 this course costs. In fact, I think I'll jump in.

That is if the March session makes. After initial sign-up, I find that the
class doesn't have the minimum number of registrants to make. That means I
have to wait until the next session is scheduled. :-(

Yeah, you guessed it! I need some more people to sign up so I can take the
class. :-} And no, I'm not in any way associated with this website. I just
think it's a great bargain to be able to learn the basics of web building.
So, if anyone would like to jump in with me, let's go...

Knowing Cheryl, I would say that the class will be excellent. I hope you
get enough participants.

It is absolutely true that the more you know about HTML, the easier the
learning curve into any HTML authoring program will be.

What version of FrontPage??
If 2003, there is a pretty good help file buried on your hard drive that will explain a lot
of things.
The file name is FPMAIN10.CHM

and it's located here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\1033

Copy and paste the following into Start > Run and click OK and it will open.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\1033\FPMAIN10.CHM

If FrontPage 2002 it is here:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE10\1033\FPMAIN10.CHM

Good to know, Murray! I do hope she gets enough people to make the class. I
wanna learn it NOW! :-} Not later. :(

There's also a great HTML, DHTML and CSS reference.

For 2003
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\1033\HTMLREF.CHM

For 2002
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE10\1033\HTMLREF.CHM

Thanks, Steve, I'll look those up, but right now, I believe a course would
be my best option for faster learning.

Preach it, Rev. Web Dev! 8-D

Yep, Steve, and although it's a good starting place, I want to start out by
learning how to set my site up without depending on the templates FP offers.
So far, I haven't seen that in the lessons. I've read Cheryl's book, and at
this time, it has taught me more about the designing stage of a website than
anything on the FP training site.

In this instance, I think my best option is to take Cheryl's course, and
then to head over to Microsoft and learn what they have to teach me.
