Mac 2008Windows 2003 Track Changes compatibility

When I send a .doc created in Word for Mac 2008 (12.1.1., OS X 10.5.5)
but saved as "Word 97-2004 Document (.doc)" to a Word 2003 for Windows
user, he says the little edit windows ("Name/Date/Time Deleted: xxx")
don't have the "Click to accept" and "Click to reject" check mark and X
buttons in them that mine do.

Does this mean he is limited to a global Accept or Reject Changes?

Thank you,

Charles

Weird.

Make sure the Windows user knows that it is possible to turn off those
check marks and X buttons on the balloons--there is a setting about
"action buttons" somewhere in Tools | Options | Track Changes. Possibly
it isn't checked on his machine? (At least, MacWord has this, I can't
imagine WinWord doesn't--I'm pretty sure it's a per-machine setting
rather than a per-document setting that might have traveled from your
machine, but I could be wrong)

Otherwise, he can still use the Accept Change and Reject Change on the
toolbar, which will apply to the selected change, and should also be
able to right-click the balloons and Accept or Reject them individually.

Those are workarounds, but of course this shouldn't be happening at
all--if it happens with all docs, we can try to track down what's
causing it.

Thanks--I think this is probably the case and will tell the other user
to see if that setting is turned on.
