Hi All-
I'm having a problem installing / running office 2008 for mac on
*some* computers in my office. It worked fine on a 24" white iMac.
On the rest, not so much.
Basically, I install the software, everything seems to have
worked fine, but then when I click on one of the icons to launch, for
example, Word, it starts up a program called 'Setup Assistant', which
then starts up the 'auto updater' program. It either finds updates
and installs them, or doesn't, then quits. When you attempt to launch
word again by clicking on it, the same thing happens, repeat
infinitely.
I've done some initial troubleshooting and am pretty stumped.
I'm able to replicate the problem on the following computers:
20" iMac Aluminum
20" iMac Intel / White
Mac Pro
Mac Mini 1GB.
Additionally, in a last ditch attempt, I reformatted the system
partition and reinstalled Leopard from scratch on the 20" white iMac,
installed all the leopard updates, and then tried installing 2008.
Same problem.
The only differences I can think of between the 24" iMac and the
20" iMac(s), which would survive a complete reinstall, are that the
20" machines have Boot Camp partitions, and the the 'Case Sensitive,
Journaled' option is on for the system partition. Does anyone else
see this sort of problem? I would think the media is bad, but it
worked on the 24" iMac...
thanks,
Erik
