We have two Macs on our otherwise Wintel LAN, using Exchange 2003.
Both are iMacs, both use Entourage (latest version & current patches),
both use OS X (latest version & current patches). One of these Macs
drives the Exchange server box (new HP GL380, 4GB, 500GB with 400GB
free) disk usage to 100% about every two minutes. When the disk usage
is pegged at 100%, Entourage says "Updating Inbox". The other iMac
does not cause this absurdly high server usage when it synchronizes.
Other parameters that spike during this 100% disk usage period (which
lasts ~20 secs. every 1.5 - 2 minutes) are CPU % and IIS packets/sec.
During these high use times, the rest of the company sees Exchange come
to a severe slowdown.
What is causing this disproportionate resource usage from one machine,
and what can I do about it?
TIA,
-- Bill
