Mac Office 2004 AutoUpdater FREEZES Computer!

So when I click on the AutoUpdater icon for it to install the
autoupdater the spinning beach ball of death appears and effectively
locks my computer up. I have no keyboard function and can't do
anything except move the mouse around. Does anyone know how to fix
this? Thanks for the help!

I've never seen this, but some standard troubleshooting techniques apply.

First, repair your disk permissions (run the Disk Utility application
from the Applications/Utilities folder).

Trash the preferences at

~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.autoupdate.plist

Use the Activity Monitor app to scan what is happening when you get a
lockup.
