MAC Office 2004 Updater Issues

I currenly have MAC Office 2004 11.1.0. I am trying to update Office to the
lastest update available which is 11.4.0. based on
www.microsoft.com/downloads. I have attempted to first update with SP2 11.2.0
DMG and update fails with message that "current installer could not locate
the correct version of software required to install this update." Make sure
you have recommended requirements.

The file is not stripped DL from both Firefox and Safari browers. I
initially had this issue while trying to incrementally update from v 11.3 to
11.9 etc. I have the recommended OS updated to tiger 10.4.11, logon as
Adminstrator of machine.

I first tried to update MAC OFFICE 11.3.5 with no system requirements of
only the OS X which was 10.2.8 and this is not the issue in my case. So I
decided to first update to SP 2 and then proceed with all updates in
succession.

Has anyone had issues with doing either a combination of these updates or in
recommended requirements of sequence. V 11.4 to 9 have prerequites to have
previous version installed to continued to lastest update but fails with same
message above.

Hi,

firstly, what happens if you run Microsoft AutoUpdate, which you can find in
your Applications folder? Secondly, Mac OS X 10.2.8 is the *minimum* system
requirement for the 11.3.5 updater (incidentally, it is also the minimum
requirement for Office 2004 itself, meaning that since you are already using
Office 2004, you have an operating system younger than that). You can simply
download the 11.3.5 update since it is a combo updater that combines all the
updates prior to 11.3.5. After that, you will need to download the updates
from 11.3.6 to 11.4.0, and you're completely up-to-date. Or, as I've already
said, use Microsoft AutoUpdate and run it a couple of times to let it take
care of this tedious procedure.

Hello,

Appreciate the response.

Hi,

"firstly, what happens if you run Microsoft AutoUpdate, which you can find in
your Applications folder?"

I have tried to run the MS AutoUpdater prior to this post and it just
continues to search for program to update. I receive no messages, however it
seems to just hang spinning icon..... should not take that long, Ive waited
over 10 minutes on several occasions. Eventually have to force quit. Logs
provide no insight. Activity monitor shows applications red which means it is
not responding,

" requirement for the 11.3.5 updater (incidentally, it is also the minimum

Agreed, running MACOSX 10.4.11, tried to manually install the 11.3.5 updater
multiple times and receive "current installer could not locate the correct
version of software required to install this update." The only requirement
like you said for this update is the OS, which mine exceeds the requirement.

I appreciate the response and I already knew location of updates. I am having issues updating with either auto updater and then tried 11.3.5 updater multiple times receive "current installer could not locate the correct version of software required to install this update.

I had exactly the same problem with my mac, which runs OS 10.4.11. I removed the MS Office and re-installed it, but this still did not help. I tried it a couple of time, no success.

What else can I do?

Thanks!

I am having the exact same problem. I just updated to Mac OS 10.4.11. When I try to print something, Microsoft Word and Excel quit unexpectedly. I have restarted the computer many times. I have downloaded the updates that were listed in the auto updater. Right now I have version 11.3.8 installed and auto updater says there are no more updates to download. But according to the microsoft for mac website, there are more versions available - 11.3.9, 11.4.0, 11.4.1. When I try to download these versions from the website (starting with 11.3.9), I get the message "current installer could not locate the correct version of software required to install this update." I have restarted the computer several times. Since it sounds like removing Office and reinstalling it from the disk has not worked for several people, I thought I'd look for other options before I try that too.

Sorry: There's a couple of problems and several different versions of
hardware in this thread, so "Exactly the same problem" doesn't tell me a
lot.

It's better to post your own question, so we have all the version details
that apply to your machine when we try to answer.

Are you getting the " current installer could not locate the correct
version of software required to install this update." error message?

If so:

1) Use Disk Utility to fix your disk permissions.

2) Make sure Spotlight can see the folder where Microsoft Office 2004 is
installed.

3) Make sure that the Office 2004 Test Drive has been completely removed
from your machine using the Remove Office tool.

4) Disconnect any external drives that may have Office 2004 in them.

5) Try again, and report what happens now.

This error is often a disk permissions or Spotlight problem. The installer
uses Spotlight to find the software it is supposed to be updating. If
Spotlight can't see Office 2004, it fails at that point :)

Hope this helps

Your case is slightly different to the one above, I think. I suspect that
you may have installed an update out of sequence, or missed a prerequisite
update.

Try these first, to make sure we're on the same page:

1) Use Disk Utility to fix your disk permissions.

2) Make sure Spotlight can see the folder where Microsoft Office 2004 is

Thank you for your reply. I tried all of the things you suggested, in the order you listed them, and the problem was not resolved. After that I tried removing all of Microsoft Office with the 'remove' assistant, and I did that for all of the versions of Office that were listed. Now I am trying to reinstall Office with my 2004 cd. When I double click on Office Setup Assistant, I get an error message that is in the 'Classic Environment' style font and box that says, "To use Microsoft Office Setup Assistant, your computer must be running Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later." But I have 10.4.11 installed and running, and I don't seem to have any other problems with programs other than Office. I tried shutting down the Classic environment and inserting the disc again, but the Classic Environment opened automatically when I doubled clicked on the Setup Assistant. Then I received the same message.

Prior to yesterday I'd been using Microsoft Office with OS X 10.3.9 without any problem. Then I installed 10.4 with an Apple install disc. Then I upgraded to 10.4.11 on the Mac website.

Please advise of next steps.

Thank you.

Update to problem:

Because the Setup Assistant didn't work - I was able to install Office 2004 by the second though not recommended method - dragging the folder from the setup screen to the hard drive. Now Word opens, but each time I get the message "unexpected error occurred while trying to load Microsoft Framework Library." Then the program or document still opens, but the problem still occurs when I try to print. But this time instead of shutting down, I get the 'spinning wheel of death'. The Microsoft Error Reporting icon pops up at the bottom but the wheel just spins while leaving the program open.

If you receive a framework error, re-apply recent updates. A framework error
normally means one or more components of Office have not been updated
correctly and are now out of synch with other bits.

I definitely would apply the combo updater again from Apple to see if that
will solve your problems. If not you will need to do an "Archive & Install".

Combo updaters will install on the same version as they¹re applying‹no need
to roll back or do a clean install.
