Mac Office 2004 Upgrade Eligibility

Hello!

I currently own the French version of Word 2001 for Macintosh, and
would like to upgrade to a German version of Mac Office 2004.

According to Mactopia on the MS web site, Word 2001 is eligible for an
upgrade to Mac Office 2004. However, is this also true for my French
version, and will a German Office 2004 recognize a French Word 2001?

Has someone tried something similar before, and can maybe offer some
insight or information?
