My Word work is saved in my old Office 2001 section of the hard drive.
Is this where it is supposed to be? I've been trying to change file
locations and had to go back to 2001 to find them.

You can change your default file locations using Preferences/File
Locationsocuments, but once you navigate to another location, Word
will default to the last location you used that session.

You can always navigate to your new location in the Save As dialog...
