Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) and Office 2004

I am thinking about upgrading to Office 2004 both because vX is
crashing a bit when it does numbered lists and also because I want to
use international characters, which supposedly it can handle just
using unicode in an easy way. My question is this: If I upgrade now,
will Office 2004 it be obsolete or even imcompatible when I upgrade to
Tiger, which I plan to do as soon as Tiger comes out? Thanks for your
help!

Hi there. First of all, no, Office 2004 will not be obsolete when Tiger
comes out. Tiger is likely to be released in the first half of 2005, around
May probably, and at that time, Office 2004 won't even be a year old. And if
we look at Microsoft's production rhythm, a new Office Suite is released
every 2-3 years, so the next Mac Office will only be ready in 2006, if not
2007. As to the incompatibility: there might be a few problems, but I can't
imagine any major ones. Mac developers (including the Mac BU) have been
given preview releases of Tiger, so that they can test their apps and
improve/modify them for the new OS. This means that if there are problems,
MS will probably release an update to deal with them.
