I have just installed Tiger in my Powerbook G4, where I had Microsoft
2001 mac previously installed. I have tried to download updates to 2001
but I can't open the file. When I double click on it an window opens
letting me know that "there is no default application specified to open
the document Office 2001-906UpdateEN.bin" and a button asks me to
"choose application" What can I do? Same thing happens when I get files
on Excel. I have Excel still installed but if I get an Excel file I
can't open it. The same window opens and asks me to "choose application"

You need to download and install "StuffIt Expander" to unwrap
that Classic Macintosh binary file:

http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/index.html

on Excel. I have Excel still installed but if I get an Excel file I
can't open it. The same window opens and asks me to "choose application"

BTW, when running Tiger, get an Upgrade to Office 2004. It
doesn't need Classic Environment any more, and offers many new
features etc.

Danke schon. How about .exe files? I have the same problem. What
application should I choose?
