Mac to PC

A Powerpoint project was created on the Mac with version 11.2.3 using OSX
10.4.6.
When viewed on a PC extra characters are being seen at the beginning of some
sentences. (diamond with a question mark)
These extra characters can also be seen on a Mac when running OSX 10.3.9
running the same version of Powerpoint 11.2.3. Is this a font issue?
