Mac to Win PC file question

scsisys

Recently had a friend send me a Word file of some lyrics to a song
she had written and used in a QuickTime movie she made.

When I opened the file, it displays a white box, then a "letter", then
a white box, "letter", etc, along with other "hieroglyphics". Makes
for tough reading.

What can I do on my end to have it appear in a normal text mode ?

thanks

Sorry Ray:

Can't answer that one until you tell us the versions of the software
involved. Generically, you need to ask her what format she sent you, and
install the appropriate applications.

Hint: Whatever it was, it was NOT "QuickTime" :) She needs to tell you
what the file format is that she sent you, and you need to tell us what
you're using.

With the amount of information you sent so far, the only thing we can say is
"Buy a Mac..." :)

Cheers

Hi Ray,

Re John's comments--

Assuming she sent you a Word file, and that the QuickTime movie is just
extraneous information (though sounds like quite a friend!), chances are
that she used a font you don't have, possibly to get letters beyond the
usual US English.

Your version of Word is *extremely* important here--great strides were made
between Word X and Word 2004.

Also, did you simply double-click the file, or did you use File | Open to
open it? If File | Open, please make sure Enable in that dialog is *not* set
to Recover Text From Any File.
