Mac, Windows and MP3

Hello,

I have created a powerpoint presentation on my Mac that will be posted on
the web for primarily Windows users. I used MP3's. When I imported the
MP3's, I imported them as movies instead of as sounds. (They did not play as
sounds. I am using OS 10.2 with the latest version of Powerpoint.) So while
they were MP3's, because I imported them as movies, a Quicktime icon was
used to show their presence.

Will these MP3 files play on a Windows machine even if that person does not
have Quicktime?

And if they don't, how can I fix the problem so that they will play with all
machines.

thanks for your help,

John

Hi

I copied this from the PowerPoint help:

You can insert sounds in the following formats:
€ Audio Interchange File Format (AIF, AIFF, AIFC)
€ Apple QuickTime Movie Sound (MOV, MOOV)
€ Apple System Sound (SFIL)
€ Apple System Resource Sound (RSRC, rsrc)
€ CCITT A-Law (European Telephony) Audio Format (ALAW)
€ CCITT U-Law (US Telephony) Audio Format (AU, SND, ULAW)
€ Microsoft Windows Media Audio (ASF)
€ Microsoft Windows Waveform (WAVE, WAV)
€ MPEG Layer 3 Audio (MP3)
€ Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI, MID, KAR)

Windows versions of PowerPoint are not as good with QuickTime as the Mac
versions. Try using PowerPoint's Save As Package feature and see how it goes
on the Windows PCs. They will need to install QuickTime player if you use a
QuickTime file format.

Jim,

Thank you for your help and the quick reply.

I know I may be repeating myself, but...

Because I imported those MP3's with the Import movie command, are they now
in the quicktime format? I did not use quicktime to encode them as MP3's.
And as I said before, they did them show up as quicktime icons.

Also, any ideas why an MP3 would not play when imported into the latest
version of Powerpoint? Do they need to somehow be connected to itunes or
whatever player is on Windows? How does one assure that that connection is
going to be made?

Thanks,

John
