mac word 04 - changing view from details to thumbnail for inserting photos

M

moethecat

Hi.
When I want to insert a photo from a file I only get a list of details.
Thumnails would be handy for me. Does anybody know how to do this? I'm
using Mac office 2004.
Thanks
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Try this:
Toward the top left of the browse files dialog, there should be a little
double-icon thing with four horizontal stacked lines on one side, and a
three-column table on the other. Activate the three-column table, instead
of the stacked lines, and you should be able to get thumbnails instead of
just name and date modified. OS setting, not Word.

If that isn't it:
Sounds like an OS issue. Those type of dialogs are mostly created by the OS,
with maybe a little input from Word. What version OS do you have?

I do see thumbnails in Insert | Picture | From File, so it may have
something to do with your pictures. Do you see thumbnail previews in a
regular Finder window?

Side note:
If these photos are kept in iPhoto, see Michel Bintener's post on this
thread for an Automator tip for easy access to those:

Hi Jonathan -

Unfortunately your post leaves some important questions unanswered...

What type of "photo" - image file format - are you referring to?

Is the "list of details" appearing in the Choose a Picture dialog (before
inserting) or in the doc (after inserting)? Do you mean "details" about the
selected image or simply a listing of files with columns of information such
as "Date Modified"?

What do you see in Columns View in a Finder window if you navigate to the
same file & select it rather than using Word?

Not all graphic file formats provide thumbnails and even some that do can be
saved without them.
