machine freezes when click on Excel

Dear All,

Just recently, my machine freezes everytime I clicked to launch Excel. It
said there is not enough memory.
There is no problem with Word, Powerpoint, etc.
I didn't install any new software to my machine recently. It seems like the
problem happened all of a sudden.
I tried to uninstall MS Office XP and reinstalled it again. The problem
couldn't be fixed. It still freezes when Excel is clicked on.
I am using my vaio PCG-F660/T with 192mb ram, Celeron 550mhz with minimum
background applications, cleared system tray. OS is Chinese Windows ME with
Chinese MS Office XP
Please kindly help!!

Thanks very much in advance.

Try renaming your excel.xlb file, you will have to search your c drive
for it. If it is large it could be causing a problem, it is the file
where your toolbar settings are saved. If excel does open with it
renamed, you will have to redo your toolbars. If it does not seem to
make any difference, and is not too big you could rename it back.
Below is a reply to a similar query from Jan Karel Pieterse

Hi,

Try opening Excel without any addins or hidden workbooks:

Start, Run,
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /Automation

Quotes mandatory, Note you may have to change the path.

If your error disappears, there is either an add-in or a (hidden)
workbook that is loaded upon XL's start, which bothers you.

- Try locating the XLSTART directory, move everything from there.
- In XL: Tools, Addins, note the ones checked and uncheck them one at
the time, each time restarting XL
- In XL, Tools, options, general. Check if a path is entered after
"Alternate startup file location". Clear it.

Another option is to open XL in Safe mode:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /Safe

Also, you might try:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /Regserver

Yet another possible problem is a corruption of your toolbar
customisation file. Locate all files with extension .xlb and rename
the extension(s) to something like .old
Now try and start XL again.

Also, NAV has shown to cause "Excel caused an invalid page fault in
module VBE6.DLL".
You might try disabling the Office plug in of NAV.

Finally, this is what MS has to say:
