macro copying

Background:

15 subprojects, i superproject in a project server environment

Why can't I copy a macro from an "outside" project file into any of the
project server subprojects? It gives a "file not found" message. Any ideas?

TIA

Hi Pingger ,

Try posting on the server newsgroup. Please see FAQ Item: 24. Project
Newsgroups. FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information
can be seen at this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

I apologize, Glenn. I misspoke. It isn't in a sever environment. This is your
regular 15 subprojects in one superproject in a shared hard drive. For some
unknown reason, none of the subprojects would allow copy of a macro module
into any of them nor would they allow macro recording and save into the file.
All macros are saved in the global which means the macros are not available
in another scheduler's machine.

Any ideas, anyone?

Did you use the Organizer to do the copying? Tools/Organizer...

That's really the only quick way of doing it. But even creating a new module
in VB doesn't work for some reason. It doesn't accept it; puts it in Global
instead. Recording a macro wouldn't accept any "file name".

So, when in the Organizer with the Module tab clicked, the file shows no
module; no macros. Wierd. Any ideas? Anybody's seen this before?

Can we get the sequence of what you're doing? You create a macro - How? By
recording or writing your own code? Does this macro the appear in
Tools/Macros? If it does, it should also appear in the Organizer - does it?

Mike,

That's what I'm trying to say. It has me stumped too.

Copying using the Organizer doesn't work, it returns a "File not found"
message.

Recording a macro using the macro recorder doesn't get past the file naming,
it returns a "File naming error" message and it wouldn't accept any file name.

If you try the VB editor, it saves the file into the global, not the file.
I've threatened it but it just ignores me. It sounds like, from your
response, that you haven't encoutered this either. Any other ideas?

Hi Pingger,

Are you going to persue this here or in the server newsgroup? If you can't
record a macro then I suspect corruption: try the suggestions in FAQ Item:
43. File Bloat? - Might be Corruption. If the file is not corrupt, then
try a reinstallation of Project.

Thanks, Mike.

I think you're right. It's file bloat. The file size increases everyday.
What exactly is happening internally in the file when this does, anybody
knows? I will go achead and do the .mpd - .mpp thing and see if that helps.

No one in the server community has any more suggestions either.

Thanks again.
