Macro Security Setting -- WARNING MESSAGES!!

D

David21001

Why after changing this setting does every other add-in NOT EVEN remotely
related to VISIO pop-up with a warning.

If I decide to change a security setting in Visio, the application should
not change the security settings for my entire machine or every other
application on the box.

What's the deal? Why do all the pop-up warning messages come up in sequence
-- almost 100 of them... on apps and services NOT EVEN remotely affiliated
with visio or any other microsoft product.

Is there a local setting for ALL products on the box somewhere?

Can this be related to the Visio indexing service stuff?

I belive in 2007 edition the "Trust Center" has become your bain. Under tool
menu Trust center sets the Macro Security warning. Try changing to disable
all macros without notification. Could be more specific on the exact problem
I might beable to help more.

Which version of Visio and what vsrsion of Windows are you using?

How are you changing the Visio security settings? Which menu are you
using?

One more thing, the warning message reads: the add-on listed below could not
be loaded because the security level is high...

What's funny is... visio is searching my entire local disk, identifying
every .exe file and flagging them!!!

WTF is that all about?

Taking into account your other problem the other day (Visio slow to
boot - is that fixed ? ) could it be that you have some infected
software on your machine ?

Make sure to go to Tools > Options > Advanced > File Paths and clear out any
directories in the Add-ons or Startup fields.

Nope, I think it was more of an indexing issue. Apparently I had indexing
turned off, so I turned it back on, and forced it to re-read my box. That
seemed to work.

You really need to work on the security settings stuff for visio 2003 to make
them match Word and Excel. I realize visio wasn't originally a MS product,
but it's macro features are a bit different, I think?

I figured out that I need to have the macro setting to High for visio and
medium for word and excel because there is no defaults like on word and
excel...if you look at it you will figure it out...after all i can't
troubleshoot your stuff for you for free ;)

and most of all i have to keep the COM add-in switch cleared... i didn't
take the time to figure out what happens when i have that one cleared and the
automation one checked.

but there is definitely something screwy with how visio handles macro
security vs. word and excel...

PS you guys might want to try a different architecture for your
products...since they are all in one suite...maybe the client workstation
should run a single webservice of some kind... and the interface be a single
webpage ... i am beginning to think that a document...is nothing more than a
repository for symbols of some kind or another... therefore what you place on
the document shouldn't matter... it's a rendering like a webpage...

i am sure you guys have this all covered anyway.

Kind regards,

Hello David,

I think I have exactly the same problem with Visio as you encountered.
I understand that you have the solution.
But to be honest I do not understand what you mean with:
" ... Apparently I had indexing turned off, so I turned it back on, and forced it to re-read my box. That seemed to work."

What indexing? Where can I find it. How can I turn it on?
What do you mean with '... forced it to re-read my box' (which box? how did you do it?).

Thanks in advance!

Marcel
