I installed Virex to remove a macro virus - W97M/Marker.bo however,
when Virex identifys the file: Jon.html, the report reads: Not scanned:
permission denied. How can I remove this virus? (I'm using word for
mac 2004).

Sounds like you have a doc created in Win Word 97. The virus is harmless
enough on the PC (not malicious) & utterly sterile on a Mac. Apparently some
lovesick code-writing wannabe spewed it forth circa 1999. The worst it does
is generate a poor and sappy poem. Unless you intend to pass the file back
to a PC I wouldn't be too concerned. If you do, McAfee, NAV or some such
should be able to purge it without so much as a whimper.

As to why Virex won't clean it up on the Mac - I'm honestly not sure - other
than it may have to do with the bug being cocooned in a bit of code that OS
X doesn't even deal with... Pre OS X probably didn't either. You can pursue
it further through McAfee support.

Thanks, I'll try McAfee NAV.
