Hello - This is my first time in this discussion group. Here's my question:
I'm working in FrontPage 2003. Boss would like me to learn Flash (which he
knows nothing about either except for using the term "Flash" over and over
and over....smile...). Company already owns Macromedia Flash 5 and
Macromedia Studio MX. Can someone give me a estimated timeline of which
versions came first, second, etc...Do these work okay in XP? Would you
choose not to use one or the other? Or, are these so out-of-date that - and
please understand that I'm not trying to be ugly here - I should just chuck
them and advise for newer versions? Thank you for your time and advice.

you could use what you've got.
there are also easier (I'm told) programs such as "swish/ swish max"

it'll take a while to learn any new program so that's something to consider.

another thing that could be beneficial about having an older version of
flash is that the book(s) will be cheaper than dirt. check out the used
books on www.amazon.com and www.ebay.com if new books are up your alley;
check out www.bookpool.com

Current version of the Macromedia Suite is MX 2004. The version you mention
is the one before it and Flash 5 is the version before that.

While Flash is extermely powerful it has a steep learning curve. Not as bad
as PhotoShop but on that end of the learning curve spectrum. As others
mentioned SwishMax is worth looking into. Swish is much easier to learn and
the price is reasonable. Even if it isn't quite as reasonable as using
software you already have.
