macrons: in special characters and in insert-symbols

1) For romanization of Japanese words I need vowels with macrons on
top. "Special characters" under "Edit" has such vowels. How can I make
a macro to import them into a Microsoft Word document?
2) If I go to insert and symbol, I can find vowels with accent
circonflex (which I can use in place of a macron).
I can create macros for lower case vowels (control plus the vowel). But
when I try it for upper case vowels (using control plus shift plus the
vowel), it doesn't work. What to do?
I have an iMac G5 with Tiger and the most recent Word for Mac.

Make sure the character palette is visible (use the Finder shortcut you
described). In Word, smply drag the character you need into your document;
alternatively, select the character and click on "Insert".

A macro is probably overkill. Once you've done it once (using the
Character Palette), you'll could use an autotext. Actually, though, with
the U.S. Extended keyboard layout (included with Mac OS X), you can type
vowels with macrons on them directly, very easily. For example, o with
macron over it is option-a followed by o. You can learn this with the
Keyboard Viewer (also included with Mac OS X).

(This is all explained in my Word 2004 ebook.)
