Macros Disabled

Geoff,

If a document you open in word contains a macro, and your
security settings are set to low, you will receive that
message. Before modifying your security settings, be sure
you know the content and sender of the document you're
opening.

To modify you security settings...

Click...

Tools | Macro | Security

Not that there are three radio buttons. Setting to High,
prevents your system from running any macros. Obviously
not an option if you want to run some. Change to low or
medium to suit your needs, but probably better to start
with medium first.

Geoff,

as Suzanne mentioned, this message appears when the macro
security level is set to High. The other two options are
Medium and Low. Setting to Medium will prompt you to
enable or disable macros if the document you're opening
contains them. Setting to Low, enables any macro, with now
warning.
