Macros disappear

Using word 2003 SP2,

When I put in a macro, type it in or record it, I can use it as long as I
don't close word, but if I close word and open it back up the macros are not
there.

Security setting is set to medium, macros are being stored in all documents
(nomal.dot).

I have never seen this before, this is a new computer, I can use macros in
Excel with no problems.

Any ideas on why this is happing and what to do to fix it?

Thanks

Paul

zSplash,
This is on my computer at work, how would I check it? I would have thought
that if word was read only Excel would be also, but maybe not, will check it
out at work tomorrow.

Sounds like you've probably solved your initial problem with
garfield-n-odie's help.

But, to answer your question, to discover if the normal.dot is read-only:
go to the normal.dot file, right-click on the file, go to Properties, and
see if the read-only property is checked. (The normal.dot file is probably
located where Tools | Options | File Locations indicates templates are kept.
If not there, do a search for normal.dot)
