macros do not appear in macros box

I have a .doc file in W2007. When I try to run a macro using View> Macro>
Macros, none of the macros in the document appear in the list. I have enabled
security options when I open the file. I looked to see if the VBA code was
present (Alt +F11) and I do see it there.

Any ideas on why this is happening? (I did not create these macros and am
VBA ignorant.)

Philomena,

By any chance, are the subs in the code declared as 'Private'?

Since this might not be an everyday process for you, I'll mention that the
lower box on the dialog should show the document that contains the macros. (I
use Word 03, so I'm don't know exactly what your dialog looks like.) The box
might say "All documents" or it might mention a specific one. I assume what
you should see is the document you're using or a particular template file.
When I try to run a macro using View> Macro>
Macros, none of the macros in the document appear in the list.

All Active Tempaltes and Documents is what I see in the bottom of the Macros
box (I think the box is exactly the same as it was in 2003).

To answer Gordon's question, there are a few subs that show Private.
However, I used the compare feature in Word after pasting the code from my
problem file into a blank document and pasting the code from a "healthy" file
that has the macros list displaying into another blank document. The code is
the same.

I thought possibly a user of this file may have saved as a .docx and it was
subsequently saved as a .doc before reaching me. However, when I tested
saving a "healthy" .doc file with the same code and security options enabled,
then saved as a .docx, the VBA code is stripped from the file. In my problem
file, the VBA code is there, the Security Options prompt presents and is
enabled by me, but the macos list is not displaying.

I encountered this once before but did not delve into it. Since it has
happened again, and I since support a bunch of engineers and the files they
issue to customers, I figured I better dig deeper. I can solve this by
pasting the content into a "healthy" file, but I haven't determined root
cause.

Any more ideas on what might be occurring would be appreciated.

Philomena,

I'd be happy to take a look at the document if you want to send it and your
test docs to me - assuming it's not business sensitive or anything.

Gordon..sorry for the long delay to your generous offer. I got pulled into
urgent projects but now can get back to this. Please look for some file
attachments in your email shortly.
