Macros don't work as they are recorded

Has anyone else have trouble with macros in Office 2004? I record macros
(ie. Paste unformatted from clipboard), but, the paste still includes
formatting (ie. Times 9pt, etc.). I look at the macro script, and it reads
"paste and format." Also, the save new "normal" template doesn't save. It
saves a blank template, and all my new macros that do work are gone. This
happens every time I quit Word.

I've gone back to my old Office X, because it appears more stable and more
of the functions work (Office 2004 has already crashed a few times). Plus,
the old version feels faster on my iMac G5. Does anyone have any ideas? Am I
missing something? I'm waiting for a response from MS.

Huh. I think maybe you found a bug, though recording macros is sorta
inherently buggy. My recorded/edited PasteMatchDestinationFormatting works
fine. Just tried recording PasteUnformatted, got
Selection.PasteAndFormat (wdPasteDefault)
And yes, it pastes formatted text. Very aggro. Will report.

Okay, I tried recording a macro using the clipboard for Paste Options
instead of Paste Special, to paste "keep text only" and that VBA comes up
as:
Selection.PasteAndFormat (wdFormatPlainText)
And that one works. Try that.

Other issue: I wonder whether you might have a corrupt Normal template.
Suggest you run through some of the troubleshooting suggestions listed here
(at least Add-Ins, Normal, and Preferences)
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootingIndex.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)
Conceivably an add-in is wiping your Normal. Are you in a corporate
enivronment where they might be controlling it?
