macros in word

I'm trying to create some sort of function in Word so that
I can have a date on a specific document that updates to
the current date each time it's opened. I'm assuming I'll
need a macro for this, but have never created a macro
before. Can someone help me? I know how to start it and
get into Visual Basic, but I don't know what commands to
type in.

Hi, Grant,

No, you don't need a macro. Use Insert > Field to insert a Date field, using
the Options button to select the format you want. Alternatively, use Insert

Date and Time, and check the box for "Update automatically" before

selecting a format.

If you want a date that does *not* change each time you reopen the document,
use a CreateDate field instead.

This is the first time I can remember offhand that someone asked for a
Date field that DOES update automatically.
