someone has created a macro that uses the keystroke
ctrl+d that i want to get rid of. the macro appears
in "all open workbooks" and i can't find where it's
stored. i would like to rename this macro (which is
useful) to something else that is not a keystroke that
comes with excel. any ideas?

I get from what you wrote that you want to change the shortcut key for
that macro. I understand that you don't want to get rid of the macro.
Click on Tools - Macro - Macros and you get a list of all the macros.
You said that you see the macro in question. Click on that macro to
highlight it. Click on Options. This opens the dialog box for assigning
the shortcut key. Change it as you wish. HTH Otto
