Macros

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel My macros no longer appear in the Tools>macros menu in the template file that I have been using for a long time. I am using a MacBook Pro version 10.5.8 SNOW LEOPARD. I recently installed Office 2008(I know it does not support 2004 macros) but I am opening the template in 2004. The original template was made on a different computer. Where are macros stored.

Macros can be stored any place the author of the macro wants to store them
:)

They are usually in the same Workbook as the data they are supposed to
process. But they don't have to be.

The only way to know for sure is to open the VBA Editor and look. Of
course, if the macro you want "Cannot be found" it means that it is probably
not in the sheet you have open. It may not even be in the same workbook.

The author of the macro deserves a good kicking if he doesn't leave clear
instructions as to where he put them: but you will have to get to a computer
where the macros work and look to see where they are.

Hope this helps

I am a graphic artist mac user nd wrapping my head around excel is foreign territory to say the least. I taught myself enough excel to write the macro in order to streamline my husband bidding process. (I would write it again but it will take me 2 days to remember how)
I did not know to specify where to store the macro. Is there a default location? Is it possible to do a search for it? Is it a file? I originally wrote it and stored it in a template which I still have but it does not show up in the macro list... I don't receive an error msg it's just not there.

If you wrote it in Excel 2004, it is very likely stored in your personal
macro workbook. Look for that. Then via the VB Editor (alt F-11) look
for the macro code.

Tell me more about your husband bidding process. I'm intrigued.

Thank you you are right! Unfortunately I didn't read this until after I found it. I managed to resuscitate the computer I wrote the macro on. (My mac guru is so smart) Stepped into the macro and found it's name (personal macro workbook) and found it in Microsoft Office>Office>Startup>Excel. And there it was! Put it into that same folder on my MacBook and voila!... were back in business.
As for the bidding...basically the xlt has a list of all the things he uses and the macro filters them out and plops them onto an estimate.
