Macros

I have e-mailed my macrolist.dot to another user. I used the Organizer
and copied this macrolist.dot to this new user's normal.dot. I checked
"enable macros" when Word starts. The macros will not run using
the keystrokes I assigned; however, when I go to Tools\Macro\Macros, I
can run them.

Since the macros are now saved in this users normal.dot which runs
whenever Word is started, I would assume the macros would work when
normal.dot is running.

I have checked Tools\Templates and Add-Ins, and macrolist.dot is
listed.

I have checked and clicked Tools\Macro\Security\Trusted
Publishers\Trust All Add-Ins and Templates.

I have checked Tools\Macro\Security\Trusted Publishers\Trust Access to
Visual Basic Project (although I have not checked to see whether we
are running Office with VBA disabled)

Can you help me figure out why the keystrokes for these macros don't
work?

Thank you!

Hi Jean,

A macro and the keyboard assignment for it are separate entities. There is
no code in the macro that says "assign this macro to cmd-opt-v." The link
between the macro and cmd-opt-v is a separate setting. (Ditto for
toolbars--sending a custom toolbar saved in a .dot doesn't take along the
macros that may be linked to that toolbar). (this produces a lot of
confusion)

By default, all keyboard shortcuts are saved in Normal template. When you go
to Tools | Customize Keyboard, you see at the bottom of the dialog a little
dropdown "Save in..."

What you should have done:
1) Created your macros, saved them in macrolist.dot (as you did, I'm sure)
2) Opened up macrolist.dot
3) *Then* created the keyboard shortcuts, making sure to change the "Save
in..." dropdown to macrolist.dot
4) Ignore the Organizer, which cannot copy keyboard shortcuts from template
to template
5) tell the other user to just put macrolist.dot in their startup folder
(/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Startup/Word. Then it will be a
global template, always available, and it will hold both the macros and the
keyboard shortcuts for them.
