MacWord 2001 immediately quits when software opens

Dana

I've got Mac Word 2001 on OS 9.2.2 that has been working fine for
several years. It has started quitting immediately when I open the
software. It starts up, gives me the splash screen to allow me to
choose what kind of document to open and when I select a new document,
Word opens a blank document and immediately quits. I deleted all Word
preferences and it still happens, ran Disk Warrior and the VIB is OK.
All other office programs are working OK, just Word quits. It quits
with Extensions On or Off.

Any ideas what to try next? It acts as if the new blank document it
creates is corrupt because it quits immediately after displaying the
document. TIA, Dana
