Mail 3.4 to Exchange sync via Entourage

I have three Macs and an iPhone that sync flawlessly via MobileMe, which I use for personal and business purposes. I am now consulting with a company in an Exchange environment, and would like to sync mail with their server.

My iPhone is currently syncing perfectly with Exchange, but I have no way to manage folders, or properly search for information on iPhone. I also view my email via Outlook Web Access on my three Macs, but it also doesn't have ability to manage folders.

I think if the company allows Exchange to have IMAP Option On, I can sync Mail 3.4 directly with the server (I am still awaiting help from the IT department). However, if they do not allow IMAP, I need another mail client option.

I can use Entourage and manage email in that program, but I don't know if I have to install Entourage on all three computers, etc. My other option is to try and sync Entourage and Mail, which comes to my question:

Can I use Exchange as a conduit to sync Mail 3.4 with the Exchange server? I assume I would have to leave Entourage open in order to have it sync, and if I only have it on one computer, that computer has to perform the sync before my other two Macs will see any mail on Mail 3.4.

I expect to continue using iCal and Address Book which will continue to be synced via MobileMe - I just need away to get Exchange to talk to Mail 3.4 if IMAP isn't an option.

I can use Entourage and manage email in that program, but I don't
know if I have to install Entourage on all three computers, etc. My
other option is to try and sync Entourage and Mail, which comes to my
question:

Entourage connecting to Exchange as an "Exchange" client can take
advantage of mail, calendar and contacts with the server.

It will act like an IMAP client for mail messages in that you can manage
folders locally and those changes are reflected on the Exchange Server.
Other mail clients connected to the server as "Exchange" clients will
see the same set of folders.
Can I use Exchange as a conduit to sync Mail 3.4 with the Exchange
server? I assume I would have to leave Entourage open in order to
have it sync, and if I only have it on one computer, that computer
has to perform the sync before my other two Macs will see any mail on
Mail 3.4.

Yes, however, I don't know if managing folders via IMAP in Mail will be
correctly reflected in Entourage and vice versa. I don't see why not though.

I'm not sure what you mean in the second part of your question. Yes,
Entourage must be open so that it can sync it with Exchange Server. No,
it doesn't need to be open for Mail to sync with the same server.
I expect to continue using iCal and Address Book which will continue
to be synced via MobileMe - I just need away to get Exchange to talk
to Mail 3.4 if IMAP isn't an option.

Mail requires IMAP to connect to Exchange as an "Exchange" client. (But
that's not truly an Exchange connection.) You can set up your account as
a POP account if POP is enabled on the Exchange Server. However, you
lose synchronized folders and messages.

Hope this helps!
