I am not sure that it's Word that's doing it.
If you toggle field codes and edit the URI directly, Word will then leave it
alone.
However, when you hover over the corrected URI, you see that Word is
"resolving" it to the bad URI.
We have put in a bug on this: make sure you use the Send Feedback item on
the Help menu to add your vote, or the change will not be made.

I'm trying to paste a link to an e-mail message in a Word 2008 document. The
correct URL looks like this: message://<header id>.
Word insists on reformatting the URL. Any way to prevent it?
