Mail icon that shows you have mail.

I had a Icon on the bottom of my screen that I new I had new messages with
out going into outlook and opening it up. Now for some reason the icon is
gone ( it was a copy of a letter)
I have outlook 2003
Windows Xp pro
Any ideas
