Mail in personal folder moved

A user created several subfolders under her personal folders in outlook. She
moved mailed into these subfolders that she wanted to keep which is fine.
However, she decided to move the subfolders directly from outlook to a
network share instead of doing it the proper way and copying the .pst folder
from within her local settings to the network share and then pointing the
data file to that network share. The mail folders that she moved are on the
network share but not of a .pst file extention of course. Is there anyway to
get these back into her personal folders the right way?

What is the file extension? I was unaware you could even do such a thing.
If I drag folders out of my Outlook it only creates shortcuts. :/

It is impossible to move a folder this way; it will create a xnk file which
is a link and leave the folder in Outlook. If the folders are no longer
there they must have been removed by another manual action of the user.

Also note that connecting to pst-file is not supported or recommended by
Microsoft.

Thanks for your timely response....after talking more with the user, I found
out just what she did. She would open up mail messages that she had saved
within the personal folders subfolders and save them as an Outlook message
item (.msg) to a network share and then delete the mail that was currently in
the personal folder. Any suggestions???

It is impossible to move a folder this way; it will create a xnk file which
is a link and leave the folder in Outlook. If the folders are no longer
there they must have been removed by another manual action of the user.

Also note that connecting to pst-file is not supported or recommended by
Microsoft.

You could try just creating a subfolder in her Inbox and dragging the
messages into them? I just saved an email to my desktop as a .msg file,
then created a folder called Test and dragged it from the Desktop into that
folder and the message is there fine.

That worked out great!

You could try just creating a subfolder in her Inbox and dragging the
